Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean and Verizon’s Samsung Developer phone

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 17 Juli 2012 0 komentar

JULY 17, 2012, 11:39 A.M. New York local time — Samsung’s Verizon Galaxy S3 model for developer gets its own landing page, while Android Jelly Bean ported to the Samsung Galaxy S3 courtesy of CyanogenMod.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is the most popular Android smartphone right now according to analysts, and unsurprisingly, it is also the favorite of developers thanks to its quad-core Exynos 4 system on a chip.

Ahead of the widely anticipated Android Jelly Bean update for the popular Android-based device, CyanogenMod himself has unleashed the JB preview build for the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the CyanogenMOD 10 code. As reported by Mobile Syrup, it is an “early build” so expect to see some weird things in your phone. Also, be sure to read the instructions at the XDA site to avoid bricking (or destroying) your “designed for rich humans” phone.

If you’re not an “advanced” user, well, you may need to wait until the end of this year or early next year for the official Android Jelly Bean update of the Samsung Galaxy S3. According to Samsung, it will “soon announce which additional devices are eligible for the Jelly Bean update,” apparently, with no mention of the Samsung Galaxy S3.

Speaking of developers, Samsung’s official website finally unveils the Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon model with the unlocked bootloader. The new page confirms that the device will ship with 32GB on-board storage.

Reports say Samsung will start shipping the Verizon Wireless-compatible smartphone before the end of this month sporting the tag price of $599 to $649.99, and of course, the price may change. We’ll update this post if Samsung will issue a statement related to the new Verizon S3 for devs variant.

Samsung snaps up CSR's wi-fi and bluetooth mobile chip tech

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Samsung has bought the mobile-phone technology division of CSR - the British firm formerly known as Cambridge Silicon Radio.

The $310m (£198m) deal includes patents to the firm's bluetooth, wi-fi and GPRS location innovations.

Samsung said the move would allow its semiconductor unit to "strengthen" its line-up of mobile-device processors.

The firm's chips are already used in its best-selling Galaxy handsets as well as Apple's iPhones and iPads.

Samsung competes for business from other handset makers against the chip-makers Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Intel.

Integrated tech
CSR's chief executive said his firm offered "extremely important" technologies, but was aware of a trend in which larger firms were acting to integrate many functions into a single chip-set reducing demand for specialist parts.

"I believe under Samsung's ownership the handset operations will be in a better place to prosper in the global handset market," said Joep van Buerden.

"I would like to thank all our colleagues who will be transferring to Samsung for their outstanding service."

About 310 members of CSR's technology and handset team will now switch over to the South Korean firm.

Samsung's buying spree
CSR had posted a $16.6m loss for the first three months of the year as a result of costs involved with its 2011 takeover of US rival Zoran.

It had also been knocked by falling demand for Nokia and Blackberry-branded handsets that used its technology.

The acquisition follows Samsung's takeover of Nanoradio, a Swedish company specialising in energy efficient wi-fi chips, six weeks earlier.

"If integration is the way forward for mobile chips then this move should allow Samsung to target the mass market with cheaper integrated processors," David McQueen, principal analyst at the telecoms consultancy Informa, told the BBC.

"The patents may also give Samsung an extra means of fighting back in intellectual property cases involving its Android devices, bearing in mind it is involved in disputes with Apple and others."

Samsung has also taken a 4.9% stake in the remaining part of CSR.

It develops audio technology that has been used in headphones made by Sennheiser and HTC's "Beats by Dr Dre" range as well as TV soundbars and speaker docking stations for MP3 players.

Samsung Galaxy Note 'Phablet' Coming to T-Mobile

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

T-Mobile today confirmed that it will be offering the Samsung Galaxy Note.

"We are excited to confirm the Samsung Galaxy Note will be coming to T-Mobile! More info to come," T-Mobile USA tweeted today.

The carrier did not release details about when the smartphone would be released, advising buyers to watch the T-Mobile newsroom for more.

Samsung introduced the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note in Sept. 2011, and it made its debut on AT&T in February. The huge touch screen earned the Galaxy Note the "phablet" moniker - part smartphone, part tablet. Many - including PCMag - were skeptical that consumers would want such a large phone, but Samsung has had some success with the oversized device.

The Galaxy Note boasts 280-by-800 Super AMOLED screen "showing colors so deep you can fall into them," according to PCMag's Sascha Segan. There's an 8-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel unit on the front, as well as standard MicroUSB and 3.5-mm headset jacks. A memory card slips into a slot under the back panel.

The phone was recently updated from Android Gingerbread to Android Ice Cream Sandwich. For more, check out our hands on.

Last month, Samsung insiders confirmed to GSMArena that the Galaxy Note II will feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, as well as a design inspired by the company's crown jewel Galaxy S III smartphone.

"the release of the iPhone 5 will put Samsung's Galaxy S3 to shame"Foxconn says

Posted by Unknown Minggu, 15 Juli 2012 0 komentar

When will the iPhone 5 be released? The earliest forecasted release date for iPhone 5 is late summer 2012.

The reports are in and it's official, Samsung Galaxy S3 is possibly one of the greatest phones ever made. It's sleek design, amazing display, and the most recent hardware leaves hardly anything to be desired. The recent release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 will possibly break sales records for Android smartphones. Samsung has recently been crowned number one for the production of mobile phones. However, Apple is still the biggest manufacture of smartphones with Samsung closely nipping at Apple's heels.

With the highly anticipated release of the iPhone 5, Samsung will definitely need an even better successor. As we get closer to the release of iPhone 5, questions have risen about the Apple CPU A6. Is this new SOC a dual-core Cortex-A9, like the iPhone 4s, or something entirely different.

Battery Life

Iphone users are well aware of the ongoing short battery life issue with iPhones. According to reghardware.com Apple's battery suppliers are having great difficulties with the increased demand. Supposedly, these analysts expressed concern over the Chinese portal Sina.com. The delays caused a high scrap of about 70 percent in production, because they did not meet Apple's requirements. Based on this ratio, it could move the release of the iPhone 5 into September or October, according to the Chinese side.

Display of the iPhone 5
The first five-generations of the iPhone were all equipped with a 3.5-inch display. Now the first 4-inch test devices seem to be in use. It is supposedly to be equipped with an apparently large 3.999-inch display with the unusual resolution of 1,136 x 640 pixels. The width of the display will change accordingly, and not remain at 5 centimeters. Measurements are rumored to be125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm, says the Apple blog iLounge.com.

3D camera or optical zoom?
According to iTechPost.com the new iPhone will be equipped with a 3D camera. Apparently an Apple employee's family has presented the new iPhone. A family member then informed the employees of iTechPost. Due to the space required, it is assumed that the iPhone will not be equipped with two five-camera lenses, but rather with a 3D software. Using AirShare, photos and videos could be "thrown" on a 3D display, for example with the Galaxy S3 this is possible.

On the website of the U.S. Patent Office, there are plans by Apple to lift the phone's camera to the next level. It could be possibly a removable rear cover with integrated optical elements. In the lid are also control chips and a small battery that connects to the circuit of the iPhone. Such a optical zoom, image stabilization, an additional, a real flash with its own power source and a mechanical shutter function is possible. The additional camera cover is currently technically feasible and would be a really cool accessory for the upcoming iPhone5.

According to 9to5Mac, the next iPhone is equipped with the energy-saving Broadcom 4334 wireless chip. The new chip also supports Wi-Fi (b /g / n), Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio, dual-channel WiFi and WiFi-Direct. This would open the way for the ad-hoc service AirDrop on IOS devices.

Terry Gou, CEO of Hon Hai, the company that is owned by the Foxconn factory, expressed at the shareholders' meeting of Hon Hai , urging "consumers to wait for the launch of the iPhone 5." "Apple's iPhone 5 to put Samsung's Galaxy III to Shame," said Gou. Samsung and Foxconn have a bad relationship with one another, as Gou said in his own words, "it's his life's work to beat Samsung."

Samsung rides the 'smart' wave

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

When you have 40 percent share of the smartphone market and have been widening the gap with your competitor every quarter, it should be cause for some celebration. But Ranjit Yadav, country head, Samsung Mobile & IT, says it’s not enough. He has set a target to take that figure to 60 per cent by the end of this year.

Yadav is walking the talk. “As smartphones become ‘smarter’, it is also important for us to make our consumers more aware about how the devices can add more value for them. We have one of the largest networks in the country with more than 300 smartphone cafes and presence across more than 100,000 retail touch points,” says Yadav. The number is set to go up sharply. Samsung has also introduced brand stores, the first of which was set up in Delhi a few months ago.

Samsung, in fact, went ahead of Nokia in the smartphone segment in September 2011 in terms of unit shipment. The latest surge has of course been provided by the S3 smartphone. Since the launch of the phone a month ago, it has already sold 100,000 units in India. According to the latest Cybermedia Research India Monthly mobile handset market review, the total India smartphone sales touched 2.7 million units during January-March 2012. Samsung emerged the leader with a 40.4 per cent share, followed by Nokia with 25.5 per cent and RIM with 12.3 per cent.
Analysts attribute Samsung’s success to the continuous launch of new products and a razor sharp focus on increasing its presence in the smartphone segment.

“Samsung’s India market share gain is a reflection of the strategy that the company has adopted globally. It has also created an exceptional series of devices under the Galaxy brand. But amidst all this, in India, it has not lost sight of the volumes segment — that means having products in the Rs 5,000 and upwards range,” says Anshul Gupta, Principal Research Analyst, Gartner.

Samsung has 17 smartphone models available across OS platforms (Android, Bada and Windows).

What has helped Samsung in India is the rapid decline of Nokia in the smartphone space. Though in the overall mobile handest share, Nokia is still the leader with a 23 per cent share, followed by Samsung at 14.1 per cent, Nokia’s FY12 revenue went down by 8 per cent in FY 12. This is because the Finnish company lost market share in smartphones and multi-media segment to Samsung, HTC and Apple, among others.

Anirban Banerjee, Associate Vice President, Research and Advisory Services, CyberMedia Research, says as the India mobile handsets market grows in maturity, the needs of users are clearly seen to be converging around two major factors – high-power, high-speed smartphones vis-à-vis value-plus, content-enabled feature phones. While most players are strong in a particular category, Samsung and others have been able to maintain a strong presence across the spectrum, driven mainly by innovation, quick time-to-market and a segmented approach.

Yadav says innovation will be crucial for the success of future devices. “One of our strengths is our ability to constantly innovate to bring the best possible products to our consumers. Whether it is the Galaxy Note with its innovative and intuitive S Pen; our innovations in the Dual SIM segment or the latest innovations in the Galaxy S III like Smart Stay, our phone with the Projector, Galaxy Beam etc, we have brought the latest technology to our consumers,” he adds.

What has also worked for Samsung is the clear distinction of products. Each of this distinction is based on the OS that the company has. The Wave brand of phones is based on its proprietary Bada OS; Omnia uses Windows and its most popular category Galaxy is on Android.

Creating this differentiation was also part of the company’s marketing strategy. “As an example of innovative marketing, for Samsung Galaxy Note, we had the challenge of creating a new category of smartphones and creating a product differentiation. To ensure that the consumers have enough scope to experience the new device and learn about it, we set up ‘Experience Zones’ in malls and other high footfall areas and created new display and demo stations in our retail stores. Through our integrated marketing efforts, we created more than seven million user experiences which helped us firmly establish the Galaxy Note as new category,” says Yadav.

Samsung is now aiming higher – it wants to take a shot at the top spot in the overall mobile handset space. “In order to cater to these diverse segments, we have one of the widest range of phones (50). On Smartphones , we offer the widest choice in terms of OS platforms and have devices that run on Android, Bada and Windows. To cater to the Dual SIM segment, we have recently launched the first Dual SIM Smartphones in India — Galaxy Ace Duos, Galaxy Y Duos and Galaxy Y Pro Duos,” says Yadav.

The ability to quickly change and bring a wide variety of products has clearly helped Samsung carve out a decent space in the fast growing Indian market.
